Day 93: 第１四半期を終えて／First quarter assessment

昨日で、渡豪から丸3ヵ月を数えました。
最初の数週間は生活の基盤を整えることを最優先し、観光もそこそこにバイトを探し始め、バイト先に合わせてシェアハウスを決めて、渡豪から１ヵ月後には今の生活パターンが始まりました。

それから２ヵ月。

観光らしい観光と言えば、メルボルンシティ内の博物館や旧監獄、動物園にグレート・オーシャン・ロードくらいで、他はほぼずーっとバイト先と家とを往復するのみの２ヵ月間でした。

バイト先では顔なじみのお客さんも増え、名前を覚えたり名前を覚えてもらったり、日本酒について説明して「なるほど」と言ってもらったり、日本酒を飲んだお客さんから返ってきた感想に逆にこちらが「なるほど」とうなったり。お客さんのことはまた別の機会に書きたいと思いますが、色々と刺激になって面白いです。

前回書いたように（Day 91: バイト仲間のこと）バイト先ではスタッフ仲間にも恵まれ、シェアメイトも干渉し過ぎず、掃除も当番制でストレスのない住環境ですし、今は居心地の良い平坦かつ平安な時期にあると感じています。

そこで、動くことを決めました。
この安息の日々はぬるま湯であり、ぬるま湯は時間が経てば経つほど抜け出すのが難しくなります。

ちょうど家主に契約更新如何を伝える時期だったので、当初の３ヵ月契約が切れる２月末をもって解約とする意向を伝えました。せっかくメルボルンにいるのですから、次はシティで仕事を探して、シティに住んでみたいと思います。

ここで動くことが吉と出ても凶と出ても、後悔することはないでしょう。
むしろ、今動かないとそれこそ後悔することになると思います。
思い立ったが吉日。
動くか動くまいか迷った時点で、「足踏み始め！」の状態なのです。

そんなわけで。
比較的のんびりした郊外生活の第１四半期を終えて、次の四半期はもう少しアクティブに、攻めの姿勢で臨みたいと思います。



2013. 1. 30. Wed.

Three months have passed since my landing on Australian soil. Setting the tourism aside, I set, instead, the settling in as my first priority. Thus I started working within two weeks of my coming to Melbourne, found a sharehouse, and here I am, slaving away for the past two months with little chance to go sightseeing.

Please don't get me wrong, though. I am happily settled in where I am, with great staff mates at work and share mates at home. I love interacting with the customers who are often positive and complimenting, and I love how they give me genuine smiles and frequent thank-you's which in turn make me smile from my heart.

When things are calm and going okay, however, it makes me feel uneasy.
When I see myself at a standstill, it makes me feel like I'm dropping out.

I'm starting to feel like I'm in a lukewarm bath, and it's just going to get harder and harder to get out of this if I waited for too long. This is a sign, a sign I've always felt whenever my heart desired some change.

So I decided to move.
This is probably about time anyways, and I cannot say I've seen Melbourne until I lived in it.

I have one month to decide where to go and what to do next, but hopefully I will live and work closer to the city. Fingers crossed.

Second quarter here I come!
